AVR Studio will no longer accept R00, R01.. Must be R0, R1 can always use the older assembler like I do :D (Sorry Roland I know you are trying hard :D :D )

usart upon reset
The USART output would be floating at reset so you will get garbage untill the processor starts. Putting a pullup resistor (10K??) in your TX line may fix it as it would not give...
