I am in need of a couple of RF23x breakout boards with proven antenna, so am contemplating submitting the http://www.atmel.com/dyn/resources/prod_documents/ATAVRRZ200_DemonstrationKit.zip Gerber files to a fab house so I can greenwire the radio SPI to a protoboard. Has anyone tried that? Of course it is a temptation to modify them for easier protoboard connection. If anyone is interested we could split the costs. Small quantities seem to run US$10 each.

Why don't you just buy "radio evaluation boards"? After all,
they are nothing else but a breakout board for the radio.
