Hello. I am currently in the process of designing a device that can scan a wide range of RF for their corresponding signal strengths. One approach would be to receive the signal through an antenna and then some kind of ADC conversion which would sample the RF signal. The digital representation of the signal could then be transmitted with any other wireless technology like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to a computer which can handle the digital signal processing part to analyze the signal. However, currently I am stuck on what kind of hardware would be needed for such an application? We need some kind of receiver circuit but no transmitter as we are only picking up the RF signals. And at the point where we do the ADC we can't rely on a fast enough ADC for example a 1800 MHz 4G/LTE signal would need 3.6 GHz sampling speed. Which does not seem reasonable. I know there are gaps in my knowledge as I am currently just a student that has yet to receive a bachelor in CS. Therefore I am requesting some guidance and help from the wonderful community. Any kind of suggestions on where to start or which kind of hardware is needed for this kind of functionality would be appreciated. Thank you!
