For the life of me I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I have the SAML11 Xplained pro board and I can't get any of the examples to work in Atmel Studio.  What am I doing wrong? Here are the steps I've taken and the results.

1) Plugged in the micro-usb cable and it shows up correctly on COM3 and the power LED is green

2) Download the LED Blink example

3) Shift-F5 for debugging and and the project builds correctly and the Power LED is Green and Status LED is Yellow but the LED does not blink

4) Put a break point right after the delay() and it says the break point will not be reached.

 

There is so little information on the web about programing and setting up these boards so I'm stuck, any ideas?

I'm not familiar with that board, but have used similar ones, and one thing to look at is jumper configuration.  There may be jumpers related to boot and debugging.  Check the datasheet and make sure the jumpers are right.

Haven't gotten it figured out, I have a support ticket open on this issue and they haven't been much help

So it worked for me after downloading an older version of Atmel Studio (I downloaded  Atmel Studio v7.0.2389 )

Thank you! This fixed it for me too. There must be issues with their latest Atmel Studio.

Try adding -mcmse in the compiler flag (Properties -> ARM/GNU Compiler -> Miscellaneous -> Other flags) in the latest Studio. This flag enables the generation of code for the Secure state of the ARMv8-M Security Extensions.
