Some of these products are nearing end of life. You might want to consider using the SAM3/4 series for new designs. SAM7S series have pin compatible alternatives (check carefully!) but the SAM7X and XC have a functional replacement but not a pin compatible replacement.
Nevertheless, they were a great device used in a number of commercial products. Lego Mindstorms for one.
End of life
It happens to the best of us......
I have one of the sam7s boards that were the first to appear back when. If anyone within driving distance of orlando wants to collaborate on getting a dev system and a demo program working on this old fossil send message.
I've got one as well, and a couple at the office. You can remove the sam7S and put a pin compatible sam4s in its place.
Have it control your alternator.
Good upgrade tip! Thnx!

That's not good news .. we use a SAM7S64 in our products. But I don't see any SAM devices on the mature products/NRND list yet http://www.atmel.com/devices/mature.aspx?Products=010%20Atmel%20AVR%208-%20and%2032-bit%20Microcontrollers
At least they have a better/faster/cheaper upgrade path for the sam7s. Not so with the sam7x/xc.
