Short form: Is there a way I can get AS7 to build a project, driven entirely from the command line?

Details: I want to develop a Read/Green development tool, such that when I save any file in my Atmel Studio project folder:

  1. It compiles the project
  2. It loads the executable into my embedded device and runs it
  3. It slurps the output from the serial port (where any errors are reported)
  4. Depending on the output:
  • If there were no errors, it briefly displays a green growl (or snarl, zephyr or specto) window
  • If there were errors, it displays a red growl (etc) window

I can trigger the whole process from a python script, and I know how to do steps 2-4 (load, run, slurp output, display results).

The only missing piece is how to compile the project from a command line command the same way that Atmel Studio would.  Are there any documents on how to do that?
