SAMD21 XPLAINED PRO power consumption reduction

Hi,

I am running the MCU at 1/4/8MHz (using  the internal 8MHz oscillator with all other oscillators disabled, except the internal 32KHz oscillator ) and measuring the current consumption in normal run mode. It is consuming 0.43/1.2/2.2mA respectively which I find much higher than what the datasheet specifies.

I set up the project in Atmel Studio 7.0 using Atmel Start project, set the clock to the mentioned frequencies and ran my code. I am not using any peripherals for now.

I read the Application note regarding reducing power consumption but I couldn't find anything that reduced the run mode power consumption with no peripherals running.

What am I missing? Why is the power consumption much higher than the datasheet?

And you are measuring current via J101?

The consumption will depend on what you are running - do you have anything attached to any connectors?

Running different applications is not changing the power consumption in any significant manner. I ran AES from mbedTLS and just a while(1) loop. The difference was in 10s of uA.

Nothing is connected to the board but the power source and the multi-meter.
