I used the simulator for an earlier project in Atmel Studio using a different board configuration. I then loaded the sample program which came with my kit, which automatically configures the board type. I noticed that I no longer have an option for a simulator. Why can I not use the simulator in this project? I thought this option was always available. I wanted to test how the code runs, and get a better understanding. I ordered a JTAG cable, and I wanted to get a better understanding of the code before I try to compile and push it to the board through the JTAG interface.

By the way; is this forum the right forum for questions about the code? I intend to slightly modify the source, and do have some questions about it.

This topic has a solution.

There's no simulator support for SAM devices. Check the release notes or the Atmel Studio user guide for the complete list.

Do you have any idea if or when the Sam series of micros will have a simulator added to Atmel Studio?

The short (and "correct" answer) is not in the foreseeable future.
